LLinE Lifelong Learning in Europe

Eighth International and Tenth Anniversary Conference of LLinE

What Future for Lifelong Learning in Europe - A Time for Choice
October 20 – 22, 2005 Helsinki, Finland

will discuss Lifelong Learning as
· Employability
· Active Citizenship
· Social Inclusion
· Personal Fulfilment

The four aims the European Commission has specified for us are in critical consideration in the Conference for adult educators in the field, researchers as well as administrators and education planners at different levels.
“Knowledge is constructed and in some way it is related to the exercise of power in society which, as we have suggested, lies with those who control the economic institutions and information technology.”
Prof. Peter Jarvis, University of Surrey

The focal points
in the Eighth International LLinE Conference are the four points of the EU Memorandum as the focus of lifelong learning: Employability, Active Citizenship, Social Inclusion, Personal Fulfilment. These aims and policy frameworks will be discussed from several points of view. The conference will also discuss whose knowledge we deal with – it is never objective. Whose knowledge is power? The economy of knowledge – what knowledge is paid for and by whom; what knowledge is given time (by us or by those who allow it to us)? Global tensions are increasing – our way to understand and act? What knowledge do we need in a multicultural world?

The goal
of the Conference are to critically analyse the future needs and developments of the European adult education and lifelong learning. The program is designed so that theory and practice can have a fruitful dialog. One of the goals is to allow possibilities for connecting people, exchange of ideas and experiences as well as encouragement for active citizenship and participation.

Keynote Speakers
The Conference invites four Keynote Speakers who represent international top level in their fields.

Paper Sessions, Workshops, Study Visits
There will be participants’ paper sessions, Thematic Workshops, and Study Visits which take the participants out of the Conference venue into the wide world of practice.

The target group
of the LLinE Conference is people in the international field of adult education and lifelong learning. Not only researchers, not only member countries of the EU, but also continuing education, vocational education, educational organisations in all the European countries. The themes of the Conference are of interest also to administrators in adult education at all levels from the Ministries to the local level, as well as education officers in organisations and businesses, teachers, HRD.

The Preseminar
